Editorial Policy
What we publish
Explainers, analysis and, when we have the material, news. Each article belongs to one section and states its content type at the top. Analysis separates the facts it relies on from the judgment it makes.
Sources and verification
Facts, figures, dates and technical specifications are taken from sources we can cite: official documents, standards bodies, company filings and announcements (treated as the company’s claims), peer-reviewed research, and established trade and news media. Sources are listed at the end of each article with the date we accessed them. We do not invent quotes, interviews, case studies, test results or product specifications. Where sources disagree or a figure cannot be confirmed, we say so.
Dates
Articles show their real publication date and, after substantive changes, an update date. Archive reviews show the event date (or year, where only the year is confirmed), the date the original article was published only when it has been confirmed, and the date of our review. We do not backdate articles.
Historical Archive
Archive entries are newly written reviews based on the sources listed on each page unless the page states that an original article has been restored with permission. A review is not presented as the original article and is not updated as current news. Browse the Historical Archive.
Use of AI tools
We use AI tools to help gather and organise research notes, outline articles, draft text, check consistency and produce explanatory diagrams. AI tools do not decide what we publish. Before publication, an editor checks each article against the sources listed on the page. We do not use AI to fabricate quotes, interviews, data or photographs of real events. Software-made illustrations and diagrams are presented as illustrations, never as documentary photographs.
Images
Each image has a caption or alt text that describes what it shows. Diagrams are labelled as diagrams. We do not use photographs of a news event unless we have the right to use them and can confirm they show that event.
Independence
Our coverage is not paid for. See Disclosures for commercial relationships and how we label them.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we correct it on the page and add a dated correction note that says what changed. We do not silently change key facts. Send correction requests through the Contact page.
